- Champions league quarter-finals
- Injured Jude Bellingham
Real Madrid edged closer to the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday night with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the first leg of their last-16 tie. The hero of the night was Brahim Díaz, who produced a moment of magic early in the second half to secure the advantage for the Spanish giants.
Leipzig started brightly, creating several chances but failing to convert. Madrid, missing key players like Karim Benzema and Thibaut Courtois, relied on the heroics of goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who pulled off some vital saves, including denying a controversial disallowed goal for the hosts.
The turning point came in the 48th minute. Díaz, starting in place of the injured Jude Bellingham, embarked on a dazzling solo run, weaving past several defenders before unleashing a powerful shot that nestled into the net.
He followed the trademark goal celebration of Jude Bellingham, the injured teammate he replaced in the starting lineup.
“Oh my god Brahim!!!,” Bellingham wrote on X, moments after the goal.
Díaz reinforced Bellingham’s absence on Tuesday, leading Madrid to a 1-0 win at Leipzig in the round of 16 in the Champions League.
Díaz told-
“I really like Jude, from the moment he arrived we’ve been getting along,”
“I’m helping him with his Spanish, he is a world-class talent and we are enjoying having him around. He is a great person as well, and I’m very thankful to him.
